Brief Historic Account of the Carson Community Center

In 1996 the Council approved the purchase of the old county building and land on Commercial Street specifically for a new community building, using general fund tax dollars (approximately $27,000).

With the sale of the American Legion Building in 2003, this project was moved to the front burner. In the fall of 2003 a committee was formed to spearhead the design concept in order to participate in 2004 grant season.   Rick Emswiler of Emswiler Architecture was selected as the architect for the building in April 2004.

On October 30, 2004 the Carson Community held a commencement ceremony for the Community Center and in August of 2005 the Community held a ground breaking ceremony for the building.

Phase I Construction Bidding began in August of 2005 and contracts for the Construction of the shell of the building commenced soon thereafter. Phase II Construction Bidding was held in December of 2005 with bids awarded in January of 2006. Phase II of the construction was for the interior finish of the facility. The construction phase of the building was finished the first week of June 2006. Total project cost for the construction of the Community Center Facility was approximately $1.2 million.

City Hall relocated from it’s previous address at 127 Broadway to the new City Hall offices inside the Community Center in early June 2006.

Today the Carson Community Center houses the City Hall offices, Carson Fitness Center, American Legion Post #556, and several different sized rooms available for private party rental, community events, and local nonprofit meetings and events.
